Radlett SRFI Phase 1 Team Wins Outstanding Teamwork Award at 2025 National Rail Awards

The Radlett Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) Phase 1 project team has been honoured with the Outstanding Teamwork award at the prestigious 2025 National Rail Awards.

The National Rail Awards aims to promote the rail industry’s longer-term success and sustainability, in which a highly skilled, diverse, motivated and engaged workforce can thrive under first-class leaders.

This accolade recognises the exceptional collaboration, dedication, and commitment demonstrated by the team throughout the delivery of the landmark project. From initial concept to successful execution, the Radlett SRFI Phase 1 has been a collective achievement, powered by the expertise and hard work of all involved.

The Radlett SRFI project exemplifies excellence in rail infrastructure delivery. VolkerFitzpatrick successfully installed a 6,000-tonne underbridge beneath the Midland Main Line in record time including a 5 month programme acceleration, overcoming complex engineering and logistical challenges. By innovating in landfill remediation, the project saved £3.8 million and accelerated construction by four months. The result will enable further development for a state-of-the-art rail freight hub that will drive sustainable logistics and reduce carbon emissions. Delivered on time, within budget, and with an exemplary safety record, this project showcases outstanding teamwork, technical expertise, and a commitment to sustainability, the project has received major recognition across four prestigious industry events.

The award also celebrates the unwavering commitment and partnership of key collaborators, including SEGRO plc, Gardiner & Theobald LLP, Network Rail, Vextrix, BWB Consulting Ltd, and Tony Gee and Partners.
