VolkerFitzpatrick Supports T-Level Students in Launching Careers in Construction
VolkerFitzpatrick is proud to champion the next generation of construction professionals by offering hands-on experience to T-Level students through meaningful industry placements.

As part of our commitment to education, employability, and social value, we regularly work with local colleges to help place their T-Level students studying construction related courses on to some of our projects as part of their course. Four students from Oaklands College, St Albans, recently completed their nine-week placement at our Radlett Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) project, where we are working on the first phase of the momentous project.
During their time on site, the students, who are currently studying for T-Level qualifications in Design, Surveying and Planning, shadowed professionals across multiple departments, gaining valuable insight into rail infrastructure, planning, engineering, health and safety, and commercial operations.

Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Evie Clark-Harding shared, “Firstly, I'd like to say thank you so much for this opportunity. I've really enjoyed my time and grown personally. I've learned a lot from the Radlett team, from professional etiquette to onsite operations. I'm sad it's over and I definitely plan to apply for future apprenticeships.”
Favour Neji added, “I'm sincerely grateful to the Radlett Team for their support and guidance during this impactful placement. The skills I've gained have laid a strong foundation for my future in Civil Engineering and confirmed my decision to pursue a degree apprenticeship. The blend of classroom and on-site learning has been the most effective way for me to grow professionally.”
“Watching the students grow has been incredible—their maturity, behaviour, and skills have all developed significantly. The T-Level model is making a real impact on bridging the skills gap and building future talent. It effectively connects industry with education, giving individuals valuable experience and clearer pathways into apprenticeships, university, or employment.”

Prior to their placement, twelve students participated in a comprehensive employability programme that encompassed site visits, career workshops, professional interviews, and presentations. From this rigorous process, four exceptional candidates were selected to join the Radlett team, where they rotated through various roles to gain hands-on experience in the construction and civil engineering industry.
This initiative reflects VolkerFitzpatrick’s broader commitment to nurturing talent, with over 20% of the workforce comprises apprentices, sponsored students, or graduates on formal training schemes. Through innovative training and strategic partnerships, VolkerFitzpatrick continues to empower young people and strengthen communities—building a resilient and skilled workforce for the future.
