Major milestone reached as first phase of M27 Junction 10 Improvement Scheme opens ahead of schedule
VolkerFitzpatrick has reached a major milestone on Hampshire County Council’s £100m+ M27 Junction 10 Improvement Scheme, with the first phase of the upgraded junction set to open to traffic from 14 September, ahead of the original programme.
Delivered by VolkerFitzpatrick on behalf of Hampshire County Council, the first phase includes a new westbound off-slip road, a motorway underpass and four new roundabouts. The new eastbound and westbound on-slips are expected to open later this autumn, completing the transformation of Junction 10 into a fully connected all-movements junction that will provide full access to and from the M27 in both directions.
The milestone was celebrated at a special opening event attended by representatives from Hampshire County Council, National Highways, Homes England, Buckland Group and VolkerFitzpatrick, recognising the collaborative effort that has driven the project’s success.
Once fully operational, the upgraded junction is expected to accommodate around 30,000 vehicles each day, improving connectivity for communities across Fareham, Wickham, Whiteley, Southampton, Portsmouth and the wider region. The scheme is also critical to supporting the future growth of Welborne Garden Village, unlocking up to 6,000 new homes alongside schools, community facilities, employment space and wider economic opportunities.
Delivering the new M27 Junction 10 has been a truly collaborative achievement. Working closely with Hampshire County Council, National Highways, Buckland and Homes England, we’ve brought forward a piece of infrastructure that will improve journeys immediately and enable the long-term success of Welborne Garden Village.
