VolkerFitzpatrick is proud to celebrate the Camp Hill Line project being named Major Project of the Year at the National Rail Awards 2026. The award recognises the collaborative effort behind the scheme, which has transformed rail connectivity across south Birmingham by restoring passenger services to the Camp Hill Line for the first time in more than 80 years.
VolkerFitzpatrick was responsible for the design and construction of three of the five new stations delivered for Transport for West Midlands, working in partnership with Network Rail. The new stations at Moseley, Kings Heath and Hazelwell have reconnected local communities to the rail network for the first time in more than 80 years, providing residents with improved access to sustainable transport and supporting wider economic growth across the region. Since opening in April, more than 307,000 passengers have travelled to and from Camp Hill Line stations.
Designed with passengers at their heart, the stations feature sheltered platforms, step-free access via lifts, ticket vending facilities and secure cycle storage, helping to create an accessible and sustainable travel experience for local communities.
The project represents a significant milestone for the West Midlands, helping to encourage modal shift, reduce reliance on cars and create better-connected communities. Through close collaboration with our partners and stakeholders, the stations have been designed and delivered to meet the needs of passengers while providing a lasting legacy for local people.
Winning Major Project of the Year is a testament to the dedication, expertise and commitment of everyone involved in the scheme. From design and planning through to construction and delivery, teams across the project worked together to overcome challenges and successfully deliver infrastructure that will benefit communities for generations to come.
