Velocity Brooklands, Weybridge
Design and build of two new five-storey office buildings providing 131,000ft², to category A standard. Extensive car parking and external works are located in the grounds of the former Brooklands race circuit and adjacent to the existing historic Railway Straight.
Construction involved CFA piled foundations and an RC frame from the ground to the fourth floor level, structural steelwork from the fourth floor to the roof level, including the escape staircase structures.
The façade combines clear and fritted glazed curtain walling with raking front elevations. The solid elevation areas are constructed with silver metal rainscreen panelling and the main brise soleil is silver anodised aluminium for passive shading.
Although only a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good' was required, following client discussions, VolkerFitzpatrick uprated this to ‘Excellent'.
The external feature landscaping and lighting were designed to consider the distinctiveness of the site and the historic route of the Solomon Straight, as well as the site heritage and views towards the racetrack.
