M275 Tipner Park and Ride
VolkerFitzpatrick design and built the new park and ride terminal at Tipner interchange as part of the wider M275 infrastructure improvement programme for Portsmouth City Council.
This single-stage Design & Build project provides a new 4,400ft2 park and ride terminal building including a comfortable waiting room with toilets and baby changing facilities within a site providing parking for 650 cars.
On-time delivery was critically important due to advertised completion dates. Any delays would have been embarrassing to the customer so we tailored our approach to meet key dates.
We maintained careful control of the programme and kept the client informed throughout. As a result we successfully achieved the opening date.
Construction consisted of a single story steel frame building on raft foundations. The envelope is clad in sheet metal and has LED feature lighting. A canopy extends from the terminal providing additional shelter.
Surface water run-off is captured by a sustainable SUDS drainage system paired with permavoid separation tanks. A green roof complemented the SUDS solution.
Permeable asphalt was used for surfacing the new car park and a hard wearing natural wicker surface was laid to pedestrian areas.
