Brooklands Farm Primary School
The design and construction of a new primary school in the Brooklands area of Milton Keynes provided places for 420 children as a two form entry school with the capability to expand to three form entry at a later date.
The school provides a wide range of facilities including a learning resource centre, a nursery with a laundry and kitchen and an all-weather sports pitch (MUGA) with a polynumeric, self-draining surface. There are seven external teaching spaces, each allocated a different theme including:
- Allotments - for teaching about plant life
- Amphitheatre - for performing arts
- Environment - including bird and bat boxes and a fruit tree
- Playhouse area
- Arts area with perspex boards
- Archaeology with a sand pit
- General flexible area
Internally, wet areas are included in each classroom, as well as interactive white board and an induction loop and speakers to allow the teachers to use microphones for enhanced audio delivery.
Through monthly meetings VolkerFitzpatrick involved teachers and school governors in the selection of fittings, colour schemes and the overall look of their school. The VolkerFitzpatrick team achieved a successful rapport with the client and end users and in return we delivered them with a school they are proud to work in. The client is delighted with the new building and commended VolkerFitzpatrick for their approach throughout the project and willingness to involve the end users throughout the design and construction process.
"A stunning building that has been designed and constructed with pride and professionalism"
