There were four phases of construction namely:
The buildings were steel framed structures erected on piled foundations. The facades were constructed in traditional face-brick masonry, rain screen cladding, composite cladding, through coloured render. There was an elevation of glazed screens that form a glass street frontage.
The building accommodates a variety of multidisciplinary functions including;
Natural ventilation, ground source energy and photovoltaic cells, together with re-cycling of the demolition materials (crushed concrete) are just a few of the ‘Green' construction elements incorporated in the overall design and construction brief.
Central plant feeding other areas of the campus was installed and incorporated into the new teaching building. This replaced plant and equipment that is to be removed in the next phase of the campus redevelopment.
