At the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Southern Training Awards 2013, Dan Moran from VolkerFitzpatrick won Most Promising Trainee Civil Engineer in recognition of his dedication and commitment, as well as showing signs of great leadership skills.
Dan is currently on a VolkerFitzpatrick training scheme working towards his Institution of Civil Engineering Chartered Engineer Review (CEng).
Dan has worked on several VolkerFitzpatrick projects including the Westfield Shopping Centre at Stratford and the Crossrail Tunnelling Academy at Ilford. Most recently he worked on the Network Rail Windsor Line Platform Extension Project where he was involved as a section engineer and worked on each of the 15 stations between Windsor and Waterloo, covering approximately 35 miles of rail infrastructure.
Mark Taylor, VolkerFitzpatrick project manager, said: "Dan has been a key member of the site team and he has stood out as an individual that is always willing to take on more responsibility and undertake works over and above his normal roles and responsibilities. We are really pleased for Dan."
CECA represents civil engineering contractors who build and maintain the UK's critical infrastructure networks in transport, energy, water, waste and communications.
Alan Taylor, CECA (Southern) executive director, said: "Dan's growing maturity, both as a person and a civil engineer, is what stood out to the judges. He showed true leadership in some difficult situations, and has clearly won the respect of all who work with him."
Dan said: ‘The award definitely came as a nice surprise and would not have been possible without all the support I have received so far from all at VolkerFitzpatrick and most notably from within my project team on the Windsor Lines Package 9'.
