Feltham depot launches first community engagement app

Recent

VolkerFitzpatrick’s Feltham depot project has launched VolkerWessels UK’s first community engagement app, providing the local community with an easier way to keep up to date on the project’s development.

app

The app was officially launched in November and offers the general public an overview of the project; details of upcoming possessions and work activities; project news, and community involvement initiatives and events. The app also allows people to submit queries and concerns, which can be reviewed in real time.

Developed with external provider, Bionics, the app has taken six months to build and is a huge step forward in local community engagement. The app will allow the project team to build a strong network with the local community, by providing residents with a much easier method of communication - one that better suits people’s current lifestyles, and one which is mobile and can be updated instantly. This step away from letter drops and community drop-in sessions also means the project can keep residents as informed as possible, leading to a stronger more collaborative relationship with all stakeholders.

Paul Lilley, operations director, commented: “The app provides the local community with an insight into our project. Not only is it a new innovation for our team at Feltham depot, but also for VolkerFitzpatrick. The team and I look forward to seeing the benefits this app brings to residents of Feltham and to other rail projects going forward.”

Feltham depot

Feltham depot is part of Network Rail’s Feltham Re-Signalling Scheme and is being built in readiness for the revised South Western Railway passenger train timetable in 2020. The new timetable will see an increase in frequency and metro style operations, meaning an increase in stabling capacity is required.

Once built, the depot will provide a brand new stabling facility for up to ten trains, including Bombardier’s new class 701 rolling stock, which are planned to replace some of the existing First MTR rolling stock fleet.

Over the next 12 months, the team will construct 4km of bi-direction (arrival/departure) track and install a carriage wash machine and an automatic vehicle inspection system. A third rail 750kV DC conductor rail system will also be installed throughout the depot, along with specialist servicing and train washing equipment and accommodation buildings, which will be constructed to incorporate sustainable technology.
