Siemens depot - York

York

VolkerFitzpatrick has modernised and extended York’s Leeman Road depot, to accommodate the new TransPennine Express Hitachi Nova 1 electro-diesel and CAF Nova 3 push-pull fleets.

The works included a 30m extension to each end of an existing servicing spine, including the canopy structure, extension of the track towards west end of site, the relocation of buffer stops, and impact protection works, as well as installing a new toilet emptying system.

New servicing facilities were also installed, including new Adblue distribution, extension of existing fuelling aprons, CET and screen wash facilities. To support this track modifications between the carriage wash and the servicing spine were undertaken with associated modifications to shore supplies and new Electric Traction Supplies (ETS). The electrical works involved the construction and commissioning of a sub-station and additional transformers and other associated equipment.

The programme was split into phases:

  • Extension to the Western end of the CET slab for HS1 and HS2 and Superstructure
  • Extension of the Eastern end of the CET slab for HS2
  • Installation / adaptation of fluids systems (part)
  • Modifications to the existing carriage wash building
  • Installation of the new turnout
  • Installation of new tandem turnouts
  • Extension to the Eastern end of the CET slab for HS1 and Superstructure
  • Installation / adaptation of fluids systems (remainder)
  • The installation of the ETS & shore supplies to the existing sidings and platform works
  • New Transformer and retaining wall to allow for the 850v ETS shore supply

"It’s great to complete this first milestone in the project, which means the depot can now accommodate the Nova 3 trains. The combined customer, Siemens and supplier team has risen to the challenge of the last six months of intensive work to hit December’s deadline and congratulations to all involved. We are looking forward to the next phase of the project."
