M5 Oldbury Viaduct

West Midlands

Joint venture BMV (BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall, VolkerFitzpatrick) are undertaking key repair works to the Oldbury Viaduct, between junctions 1 and 2 of the M5, for Highways England.

The 3.2km of elevated viaduct requires significant deck repairs, to increase its lifespan. In order to achieve this, the team will remove the viaduct’s surface and carry out a series of tests to establish where repairs are required.

All deck ends and joints will be re-constructed and the underslung drainage will be replaced. Following the repairs, the surfacing will then be replaced. Traffic management measures will be in place during the project, to ensure the works are carried out safely, with minimal disruption to the traveling public.

This large-scale, multifaceted project will feature a range of specialisms including hydrodemolition, concrete repair, verge construction works and waterproofing operations.
