Haberdashers’ Boys’ Pre-Prep School

Two-stage D&B of a single-storey pre-preparatory school, delivered within the site of Haberdashers’  Boys School, one of the largest independent schools in the country. Previously, the pre-preparatory school was based at a different location. The project will enabled Haberdasher’s to create a lower-school complex on a single site.

  • The new building features a large hall and studio that can be divided to create space for assemblies, performances, sports and community activities.
  • The building also has a ‘green roof’ that is to be used as a teaching space. Works also include remodelling the listed Round House building to create a new library.
  • Building envelope follows Passivhaus principles.
  • Structure combines steelwork, cross laminated timber (CLT) and general timber.
  • Large glazed areas maximise natural daylighting.
  • Glazed screens connect the learning spaces inside. Circulation areas double as breakout spaces.
  • External works include car park extension, hard and soft landscaping including re-orientating the play courts and relocating the athletics track.
