Crossrail Back Up Control Facility and TUCA Training Facility

VolkerFitzpatrick delivers new Back Up Control Facility and training facility at the tunnelling and underground construction academy (TUCA).

The Back Up Control Facility supports the main route control centre (RCC) and provides resilience in the event of a failure in the core RCC infrastructure.
The TUCA is used by Transport for London for educational and training courses.

Development included:

  • Design and build of two-storey Back Up Control Facility and TUCA training facility
  • Ground and first floor level in structural steel frame
  • Metal composite deck and partition walls
  • Training classrooms, plant and equipment rooms, and communal areas
  • Elizabeth Line ‘live’ station mock-up, complete with platform, ticket hall, plant room, control room, tunnel, track, OHLE and signalling
  • Project success required close collaboration with six Crossrail system-wide contractors
