The project involves the demolition of the existing structure whilst retaining the impressive façade at the front of the buildings. VolkerFitzpatrick won the project partly due to the innovative temporary works design saving 12 weeks on the client's programme.

In this preconstruction phase VolkerFitzpatrick is working with the design team, consisting of Andrew Lett Architects, The Berkeley Consultancy, RWA and Long and Partners, to complete the subcontract packages.

David Sershall, managing director of VolkerFitzpatrick's building division, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed to the preconstruction stage on this project. Being in this position with Howard de Walden Estates for a potential fourth consecutive project is very pleasing. We are now working hard so that we can start construction on site."

Once completed 47-51 Queen Anne Street will house office space, two two-bedroom apartments and a specialist room housing an MRI scanner for a medical practice. The project also involves construction of a reinforced concrete basement structure for the installation of a major new substation.

The construction of the new buildings will start on site in February 2015 and is expected to be completed in July 2016.
