Alan Robertson, chief executive at VolkerWessels UK, said: "We are delighted by the results of our recent entries into these prestigious awards and are gearing up to present to the judges as part of the second round of the judging process.
"In 2013 our organisation delivered high quality and innovative projects, as well as continued to provide a safe, supportive and motivational environment for our people, in which they are valued and given opportunities to develop. These awards celebrate the best in UK construction and we are proud to be shortlisted."
As a group, VolkerWessels UK has been shortlisted in the Employer of the Year category, which recognises companies who can prove their excellence as an employer. Judges will be looking not just for the detail of policy, but evidence of senior management buy-in and demonstrable results.
VolkerRail, as part of the consortium MPT, has been shortlisted in the Project of the Year (over 50m) category for the Manchester Metrolink Phase 3 project. This category shortlist showcases construction teams that deserve recognition for high standards of work, client satisfaction, health and safety and adherence to budget, whilst celebrating the best of UK construction.
The MPT consortium involves VolkerRail and Laing O'Rourke being responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the civil engineering and track and Thales being responsible for the tram operating systems. The Manchester Metrolink project is the largest light rail scheme in the UK.
VolkerStevin has been shortlisted in the Company Innovation of the Year category for the Scour Protection Installation Frame, an innovative solution that was provided on the Tay Road Bridge project. This category showcases companies that have shown excellence in the way they have used innovation to improve performance and service to clients.
The winners will be announced at the Construction News Awards on Thursday 17th July at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
