VolkerFitzpatrick Sponsors CIOB Bright Futures Student Challenge 2022

Recent

VolkerFitzpatrick was proud lead sponsor of the Chartered Institute of Building’s (CIOB) Bright Futures Student Challenge, which took place on Wednesday 1 March, in Camden, London. The Bright Futures Student Challenge is an annual student challenge for the CIOB’s London and South regions. The competition brings together small teams of built environment students from regional universities to compete for prizes.

As part of this year’s challenge, the students were given a tour of VolkerFitzpatrick’s Apex project in Camden and were then asked to answer questions relating to the project. The teams then went on to prepare a 10-minute presentation to pitch to a panel of construction and engineering professionals.

The judging panel consisted of eight industry experts, including four from VolkerFitzpatrick - Stuart Deverill, managing director of the building division, John O’Grady, commercial director, Rakesh Chavda, senior project manager, and Anthony Clarke, operations manager.

The students were judged on their presentation skills, innovation, teamwork, quality of content and relevance, and won prizes, including a work placement and gift vouchers, provided by the Apex project’s client, Reef Group.

Stuart Deverill commented:  ‘It was a true honour to be part of the judging panel at this year’s challenge and I would like to thank the CIOB for inviting us to be part of this fantastic event. The event showcases what a great industry we are all a part of and encourages students to fulfil their aspirations within the construction industry.’

The challenge provided participants with the chance to meet other local, like-minded students and industry professionals, in a fun and stimulating environment. The participants all performed very well indeed, and we would like to congratulate the team from the University of West London, who were the winners with the highest score and runners up from the Royal School of Military Engineering. A special mention goes to  Chris Willetts from the University of Brighton for achieving the 2022 Outstanding Student Award and Lewis Cain from the University of West London who was highly commended.
