VolkerFitzpatrick continues its commitment to NoWaste initiative

Recent

VolkerFitzpatrick has been awarded a NoWaste accreditation and Bronze Award for its enthusiastic approach and commitment to the NoWaste initiative at Gatwick Airport, making the company the first to be re-accredited through the initiative. As well as this, it is the second year that VolkerFitzpatrick has won a Bronze Award, with sustainable efforts being recognised in 2011 at the Athletes Village.

Nowaste accreditation

VolkerFitzpatrick health and safety manager, Phil Douce has also for the second year running been awarded a NoWaste Accredited Partner Award.  Phil has led the NoWaste training programme, introduced NoWaste into VolkerFitzpatrick inductions and helped develop custom versions of the NoWaste programmes, whilst also encouraging colleagues across VolkerWessels UK to take part in the programme on their projects.

The NoWaste initiative is about using lean construction and six sigma techniques to reduce waste and contribute to sustainability. It helps individuals and teams to look at cutting waste from their everyday activities: not only materials waste, but also wasted time, wasted efforts and other inefficiencies. More than 85% of the VolkerFitzpatrick team, including subcontractors, have taken part in NoWaste training during construction at Gatwick Airport. Following the training the site team came up with several innovations to reduce on site wastage.

Airports framework manager, Davie Fraser, who was presented with the project certificate, said: "The accreditation and awards have been achieved because of the positive and on-going efforts made by everyone in the team at Gatwick Airport and I was so pleased to accept the award on behalf of the entire team."

Alistair Thompson, major projects director for VolkerFitzpatrick who was presented with the NoWaste Accreditation and Bronze Award company certificate, commented: "This is a great initiative, which we will look to commit to on more sites in the future. Everyone should be proud of their hard work and commitment to reducing waste on site and its impact on the environment."
