The depots, Three Bridges in Crawley and Hornsey in London, are being constructed to house the new Siemens-built Class 700 Desiro City trains, which will start operating on the Thameslink line from spring 2016.

The Three Bridges depot is split into east and west-side facilities either side of the London to Brighton mainline. VolkerFitzpatrick is working to complete a five-road, 12-car maintenance facility alongside workshops and offices, train stabling and servicing roads. Two carriage washing machines, a CET system and wheel lathe are also being installed.

The construction of the second depot in Hornsey is also well underway. The first phase of the project, including seven new roads and a carriage wash machine, was completed and handed over at the end of March 2015.

Remaining work at Hornsey continues as VolkerFitzpatrick finishes the 12 car maintenance facility, as well as a further carriage wash machine and installation of the CET system. Two bridges over the New River and Turnpike Lane are also being widened.

VolkerFitzpatrick is working closely with sister company VolkerRail, who are installing all track and signaling systems into the sites.
