Refurbished Caritas Anchor House re-opens in time for World Homeless Day

This October, VolkerFitzpatrick, in association with CRASH Charity, opened the newly refurbished lounge area at Caritas Anchor House, a homelessness charity which helps over 200 people a year turn their lives around.

When the VolkerFitzpatrick team initially entered Caritas Anchor House, the lounge area was in need of a revamp, with worn carpets and tired furniture and facilities. In just five weeks, the team, alongside CRASH and their Patron companies, fully transformed the space, creating a relaxed and vibrant environment that makes the residents feel at home.

As the residents were welcomed back into the space, they were delighted to see the many improvements which had been made, including a brand new TV, re-clothed pool table, peaceful reading area and comfy sofas, as well as new chairs and bean bags to enjoy.

One resident said; “I’m amazed by all this, it’s incredible!”

The day was also marked by staff wearing yellow for World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day, which added to the significance of the occasion.

John O’Grady, commercial director for VolkerFitzpatrick and CRASH Trustee, said; “What a fantastic transformation - it is hard to remember what the lounge even looked like before. I hope this place truly does raise the spirits of the people staying here.”

Amanda Dubarry, CEO of Caritas Anchor House, said; “I am so proud of the VolkerFitzpatrick team and how they’ve managed to transform the place. I can’t wait for the residents to start using this wonderful social space, they will absolutely love it.”

The lounge was officially opened with a ceremony on 4 November, when the team welcomed back members of the supply chain who generously contributed to the success of this project.

VolkerFitzpatrick has been a Patron company of CRASH Charity for four years, helping a number of homelessness charities and hospices with their vital construction projects. To read more about the work CRASH does, click here.
