The joint venture is currently working on behalf of Highways England to carry out major concrete repair and waterproofing work on the M5 Oldbury Viaduct, between junctions one and two.

The award acknowledges the team’s exemplar process and practices, particularly around water management and mitigating the environmental impact of hydrodemolition works.

The project has received a number of other accolades for its health and safety initiatives, including an ‘Excellence in Occupational Health and Wellbeing Award’ at the 2019 Highways England Awards and winning ‘Best Place to Work’ at the Construction News Talent Awards last year.

Andy Battye, head of HSEQS for VolkerFitzpatrick, said: “The M5 Oldbury Viaduct team have gone to great lengths to ensure the highest level of environmental best practice, throughout the project to date. I am delighted that their efforts in this area have been recognised with a Green Apple Award.”

The award will be presented at a ceremony held in the Houses of Parliament, on 25 November.
