VolkerFitzpatrick highly commended at CIHT awards

VolkerFitzpatrick's Incident and Injury Free (IIF) initiative was highly commended in the Health and Safety at Work category, which awards outstanding examples of work practices that make a positive contribution to health and safety. The IIF programme empowers individuals to take responsibility for their actions, and those around them, through four key principles of the acronym PALS:

Plan - Think before you act

Attitude - Your choice

Lead - Be an example to others

Share - Help others get it right

The second highly commended award was issued to VolkerFitzpatrick in the Major Projects category, for the work completed on the East Kent Access Improvement Scheme phase two project. This £87m project, which was completed through a joint venture with Hochtief in May 2012, provides 8km of new dual carriageway, associated roundabouts and two significant structures that cross rail infrastructure at Cliffsend and Cottington near Ramsgate.

Richard Offord, managing director of VolkerFitzpatrick, said: "We are delighted to be commended for our work, not only on site but also for  the initiatives we have implemented as part of our continuous improvement to health, safety, environment and quality."

The CIHT Awards are a celebration of the highways and transportation industry; it is an opportunity to reward the remarkable achievements of those working in the sector and to promote this professionalism and best practice to a wider industry audience.

All of the awards were presented on 13 June 2013 at Madame Tussauds, London.
