LAMDA ground breaking

Guests were welcomed by Rt Hon Shaun Woodward MP, Chair of LAMDA’s Act Now! Campaign to raise funds for the project, Luke Rittner, LAMDA Chairman and Joanne Read, LAMDA Principal, who spoke of their plans to transform the site into the world’s leading centre for drama training.

Working alongside Níall McLaughlin Architects, VolkerFitzpatrick has been appointed as the main contractor for the redevelopment of the west London campus. The drama school is located on a challenging site in Hammersmith, which is surrounded by Tube lines and the A4 dual carriageway.

Salvatore Capotosto, VolkerFitzpatrick project manager commented: “This is an exciting and ambitious project: not just in terms of its scale and what it delivers for LAMDA, but also in terms of the challenges the site presents. VolkerFitzpatrick have the experience and expertise to meet these challenges head on and help LAMDA to create the world’s leading centre for drama training. We will be delivering the LAMDA project applying the Experience Excellence programme, which has customer and community satisfaction as one of the main objectives.”

The  5,500m2 redevelopment, due to open in autumn 2016, will house exceptional training, rehearsal and performance facilities, including the Simon Sainsbury Theatre, the Carne Studio Theatre and the Sackler Library & Study Centre. LAMDA will finally have the facilities to match its international reputation and increase its contribution to cultural life in the UK and beyond. For more information, visit www.lamda.org.uk
