Certificate of excellence awarded to VolkerFitzpatrick at the 2013 Concrete Society Awards
VolkerFitzpatrick has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence in the education building category at the 2013 Concrete Society Awards. The award was achieved for the high quality concrete work completed on the newly built Stratford Library for the University Of East London.
VolkerFitzpatrick designed and built the new library within the University of East London's campus . The three storey building comprised of a reinforced concrete framed, with brick and glazed facades as well as laminated timber curtain walling panels, completely bespoke to this project.
Internal features include:
- Exposed concrete ceilings constructed using a specific shuttering layout,
- Mechanical ventilation,
- High quality fair facade concrete finishes
- Raised flooring
These all help to provide an efficient strategy for heating and cooling the building.
David Sershall, managing director of buildings at VolkerFitzpatrick, commented on the award: "This is a great achievement and we are delighted to receive such high recongition for our work."
The Concrete Society Awards is the longest running awards event in the UK construction industry and celebrates excellence in concrete. Over 400 members, guests and industry representatives attended the awards which were held at the Intercontinental Hotel, London.
