M275 Tipner new motorway interchange and bus lane

VolkerFitzpatrick, in joint venture with Colas, successfully completed the design and build of a new 650 space Park & Ride facility, complete with a dedicated bus lane into the city, accessed from the motorway via a newly built junction.

Delivered on time, the project solved a number of problems for Portsmouth City Council. These range from reducing congestion and improving air quality to addressing the  transportation needs of its residents, commuters and visitors.

The Tipner junction development invites motorists to park their cars at the new park & ride site (adjacent to the new junction) and board one of a fleet of modern, comfortable double-decker buses. Passengers complete the remaining 2km of their journey along a new dedicated bus lane on the M275.

As well as improving transportation links, the new Tipner  junction and park & ride development was part of a wider regeneration plan. The project has cleaned up a formerly derelict and disused area in the city and prepared it for future development as a business park and residential site. The investment promises significant economic growth, jobs and housing for Portsmouth’s residents.
