Andover Off Site Gyratory section 278 works

Andover

The Andover works included improvement of the A303 providing access into a 115 acre development that was being delivered by the developer's building contractor, McLaren. Works were to provide roadway realignment and construction of a new bridge over the A303

A key aspect of this project was programme. The A303 road realignment and new bridge had to be completed to coincide with the completion of the distribution centre, a strict condition of the planning consent. We worked closely with Goodman to agree in advance the design and fabrication of the bridge beams. This close collaboration allowed us to place the order for the bridge beams several months in advance of construction commencing on site providing programme and cost certainty for our client.

Construction was over a busy urban road adjacent to live traffic. The bridge lift was carried out over two weekend closures with a diversion up and over the junction. This required high level roads to be completed to meet this critical event which was successfully achieved. Road space was booked with the Highways Agency Area 3 Agent and traffic management measures implemented at night, including cones/barriers, signage, and speed / lane restrictions. We constructed temporary road widening areas to provide safety zones. All traffic management was maintained 24hours a day, 7 days a week.
