The awards ceremony, held at the Luton Hoo Hotel saw more than 60 local individuals and groups recognised across 20 award categories. VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerHighways were both proud sponsors of awards this year, with VolkerFitzpatrick sponsoring the Sporting Inspiration award and VolkerHighways sponsoring the Lifetime Inspiration award.

The evening saw a variety of entertainment provided by the Luton Male Voice Choir along with a local singer songwriter. There was also an auction and raffle that took place which raised more than £5000 for local charity Keech Hospice Care.

Mark Williamson, site manager at VolkerFitzpatrick presented the winner, Dave Hall, with the Sporting Inspiration award. Dave has completed 40 marathons in 40 days in aid of the housing conditions in Sierra Leone. In preparation for that, he completed the London Marathon as part of his training. Through his sporting achievements Dave has raised thousands for charity.

Rob Stranders, operations director at VolkerHighways presented Terry Jones with the Lifetime Inspiration award. Terry has dedicated over 50 years to supporting the young people in Luton through his volunteering at the 1st Luton Sea Scouts.

Mark said of the evening: “It was with great pleasure to present the Sporting Inspiration award to Dave Hall. I am in awe of his achievements and for how much money he has raised for charity.

“Having completed the Love Luton remembrance bike ride to Flanders, Belgium, myself, I feel Dave has inspired me to look for my next sporting challenge which can help benefit a worthy cause.”

Rob commented: “With VolkerHighways having worked in Luton for the past 18 years, maintaining and improving the highways, we have been able to get to know the local community. It is an honour to be part of an event that recognises and celebrates the amazing work and achievements of the local community.”
